A thesaurus is a very useful tool when it comes to writing.
Kevin Scannell, of St Louis University, Missouri, has developed a thesaurus, or more correctly, a Semantic Network, for Irish. Information on it is available at the following website:
A DPF file (50Meg) of the data is available at the following link:
This is the same database that lies behind the thesaurus on the very useful website potafocal.com.
A thesaurus, based on the same database, is available within LibreOffice Writer / OpenOffice.org Writer. It is easy to use. It is possible to find the Thesaurus function under Tools.
Note: There is no Irish thesaurus available for Microsoft Word.
